We are a non-profit organisation aiming to address nutrient deficiencies near Faisalabad by providing poultry to the underprivileged. We wish to resolve both the issue of imbalanced diets, which result in issues like protein deficiency, as well as the problem that all current solutions are not sustainable (i.e they cannot work over a long period).
Many households in central Punjab have a high number of dependents (see linked document), due to which the division of food is a question of available cash. As a result of this, families have budget-based diets instead of balanced diets.
Issues arise, including protein deficiency, scurvy, rickets, and more. Much of the problem lies in solutions not being sustainable. There is no refined system through which families can benefit each month.
We deliver 7 hens along with 1 rooster to five recipients per family. We add 1 hen per additional member. This formula works because 1 indigenous hen lays 1 egg every other day, on average.
First, we pinpoint locations where underprivileged citizens reside.
Then we take note of the number of family members in their respective households.
We then calculate the number of hens and roosters that would fulfill each household's dietary requirements.
We visit to distribute the chickens.
We then periodically survey the results of this distribution.
The recipients get a healthy source of nutrition (i.e at least two organic chicken eggs) each day.
The poultry acts as an emergency source for acquiring money, as it has a high resale value.
This practice is sustainable for recipients as the offspring from these chickens allows them to be replaced when needed.
The chickens are low maintenance; they have simple food and shelter requirements.
Donations:
Murgi Paal can only function with the help of donations. As a non-profit organisation, we do not collect payment from those we distribute to and try to ensure that each household receives the amount of poultry it needs. This requires hefty funding, and we require your aid. Visit our donations page to learn how you can contribute.
